The Lebanese Center for Policy
Studies held a one-day conference on "Reform of
the Electoral Law for the 1996 Parliamentary
Elections" on July 27, 1995. The conference was
attended by political scientists, lawyers, members of
parliament, political activists and journalists. Conference
participants debated the advantages and disadvantages of
various electoral models and discussed ways to improve the
fairness of elections in Lebanon.
This conference led to the creation of
a task force consisting of political and legal experts who
would meet on a regular basis to discuss the reform of the
parliamentary electoral law
