> Development Priorities for Lebanon: Vision 2010

Commissioned by an international organization, the LCPS has carried out a research study on the country's development priorities and the principal factors determining the main issues affecting development in Lebanon.

Entitled "Leveraging Knowledge and Participation For Sustainable and Balanced Development: A Vision for Lebanon in the Next Decade" , the report identifies development priorities for the next ten years and sector and thematic strategies that are required to achieve progress in the medium term. The report provides a general idea of where the country is heading, taking into account global forces at work, regional developments, and local perspectives. It identifies the country's necessary requirements to increase its strengths and potentials, as well as pinpoints its weaknesses and the remedies needed to ameliorate them.

The main theme of the report focused and revolved around five strategic objectives that were elaborated upon. These included the following:

  • Build competitive sectors capitalizing on knowledge

  • Privilege knowledge sectors in regional and global integration

  • Establish a knowledge-based economy

  • Enhance human capital as Lebanon's comparative advantage

  • Provide an enabling framework for knowledge-based development

In close consultation and collaboration with the international organization, the research was conducted by a group of LCPS researchers and was based on available information and relevant studies.
