Textile Industry
|
|
1996-1997:
This study was jointly executed by Mr. Riad El Khoury (MABA LTD
Economic and Business Consultants). The LCPS is conducting a survey
which is part of a broader study aimed at evaluating the
competitiveness of Lebanon's textile industry vis-a-vis the other
Middle Eastern countries.
LCPS has carried out and completed interviews with 20 firm
managers, and collected data on:
- Each firm's basic data (name, year of foundation, main
activity).
- Governmental policy towards the sector (regulations, support
institutions, incentives given...).
- Industrial performance and competitiveness: identification of
the major problems faced by the sector, evaluation of its
productivity, and appraisal of its competitiveness in local and
foreign markets.
- Managers' evaluation of the impact of the peace process as
well as the changes in the world trading system.
The study results were presented in an expert group meeting
entitled "The Impact of the Peace Process on Selected Sectors". This
workshop was co-sponsored by the United Nations Economic and Social
Comission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES),
Federal Republic of Germany Economic Research Forum for the Arab
Countries, Iran and Turkey.
