Assessing the 2022 Elections: Participation, Violations and Government Supervision
LCPS
Lebanon has concluded its 2022 parliamentary elections as it grapples with an unprecedented economic crisis. This resulted in major changes to the country’s political landscape, with the emergence of new political parties and independents in the wake of the October 17 uprising. While some were not surprised by these new developments, arguing that both turnout and the distribution of seats were well within what was expected, some notable aspects of the election process need to be further examined.
The Lebanese Center for Policy Studies hosts a virtual symposium to discuss three key aspects of the 2022 parliamentary elections: voter turnout, scale and type of violations, and the performance of the Supervisory Committee for Elections. This webinar is part of a series of election-related events organized by LCPS that address various aspects of the electoral process, such as the electoral law, government oversight and supervision, and the role of the media, among others—all with the aim of enhancing the integrity of elections in Lebanon.
