Despite recurrent promises of reforming the healthcare sector to achieve universal healthcare, there has been limited progress. Most Lebanese continue to face significant barriers to affordable healthcare, leading to a catastrophic burden of out-of-pocket expenses. The economic crisis that Lebanon has been undergoing since 2019 has further stressed an already struggling healthcare system. Fadi El-Jardali, Reem Masri, and Zeina Sleem from the Knowledge to Policy (K2P) Center at the American University of Beirut survey the many problems plaguing healthcare provision and offer recommendations for reforming the ailing sector.
